Lorne Ladner, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist who provides individual therapy, diagnostic assessment, and family therapy. Dr. Ladner maintains a private practice in Centreville, Virginia. Dr. Ladner has over 18 years of experience doing psychotherapy.

Dr. Ladner has authored books, book chapters, and articles on various aspects of psychotherapy. His book, The Lost Art of Compassion: Discovering the Practice of Happiness in the Meeting of Buddhism an Psychology (HarperSanFrancisco, 2004) has also been published in French & German (and partially translated into Chinese). Dr. Ladner wrote the chapter on "Mindfulness" in the context of therapy in Spiritually Oriented Interventions in Counseling & Psychotherapy (American Psychological Association Press, 2011) and produced a training video with Dr. Jon Carlson for the the American Psychological Association entitled Mindful Psychotherapy. Dr. Ladner also co-authored Bridges of Compassion: Insights and Interventions in Developmental Disabilities with Dr. Alex Campbell (Jason Aronson Press, 1999). Dr. Ladner also edited The Wheel of Great Compassion (Wisdom Publications, 2000) and The Easy Path (Wisdom Publications, 2013). He is currently working on a book on the topics of self-esteem and confidence.

From 1999-2004, Dr. Ladner was an adjunct faculty member at Argosy University. Since 2004, Dr. Ladner has given lectures and workshops on topics ranging from the psychology of compassion, positive psychology, mental health diagnosis and assessment, integrating meditation and psychotherapy, and mindfulness at a wide range of venues including The Omega Institute, The Virginia Psychological Association, The Maryland Psychological Association, The New York Open Center, the Psychotherapy Networker Conference, and The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine.

Dr. Ladner takes a compassionate, collaborative approach to psychotherapy, and depending on the needs of the individual, employs approaches including Jungian, Object Relations, Cognitive-Behavioral, Positive Psychology and Mindfulness based therapy as well as insights from scientific research on Emotional Intelligence, empathy, compassion training, and neurobiology.
